BPF Highlights

BPF 2011 Highlights
1. The Foundation started the year with electing new officers and recruiting new Board Members.

2. A Community Legislative Forum with State Representative Eric Pettigrew was held in January at the Central Area Motivation Program.

3. The Foundation’s 2011 Legislative Action Agenda included the following Bills:
• HB 1030 (Opposed)
• HB 1043 (Supported)
• HB 1235 (Supported)


4. The Foundation submitted a Letter of Support for Eric Pettigrew‘s House Resolution 2011-4601 honoring the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

5. In September the Foundation presented its 2011 -2012 Legislative Action Agenda: “Stepping Up & Speaking Out” (SUSO), with a Campaign Kickoff event at The Evergreen State College, Tacoma Branch.

6. In September, the Foundation’s Application for Exemption was approved granting 501 (c) (3) status to the organization.

7. In October the Foundation hosted a Summit and Interactive Workshop, “The High Cost to the Black Community for Nonparticipation in the Political Process,” at Northwest African American Academy. The workshop featured Dr. Johnny Lake from Positive Images in Portland OR.
